Social Services InternshipAt — WISEPlace

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Community Engagement Manager and the Director of Programs, assist with Intake Inquiries and Assessment.

WISEPlace, located in Santa Ana with Internship locations in Santa Ana and Orange, provides safe shelter, rental assistance, and affordable housing paired with wrap-around services like counseling and mental health services, case management, and employment assistance to help rebuild their lives.

WISEPlace is the only Orange County organization leading the effort to end homelessness for unaccompanied women. WISEPlace instills hope in women and provides a path to personal stability so they do not face adversity alone.

Interns have a service learning position called an Advocate.

Intake Inquiries & Assessment

• Voicemail – general
• Check incoming inquiries voicemail
• Listen to recording and input the information into the trackers
• Returning calls
• Record the result of the call
• Send a follow-up email to the caller with more information and/or referral resources

• Online Inquiry - Get Help form
• Process online inquiries
• Record the result of the call into the trackers
• Send a follow-up email to the caller with more information and/or referral resources

• Coordinated Entry for Domestic Violence Survivors
• Check incoming referral voicemail
• Listen to recording and input the information into the trackers
• Return the call- More information is required – client will be sharing more sensitive information
• Record the result of the call into the trackers
• Create a folder for the client to include assessment form
• Send a follow-up email where applicable and when safe to do so

Training:

Throughout the training, students will be required to:

1. Attend new intern training covering job assignments, expected outcomes, and program operations.
2. Receive training on a variety of job-specific tasks, as assigned.
3. Receive regularly occurring supervisor feedback.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the internship, students will be able to:

1. Identify and help others learn to deal with crisis.
2. Learn about the community resources that are available.
3. Learn to work within the agency policies and procedures
4. Learn computer skills.
