Opportunity Summary 

The Carmel Youth Center is looking for students to assist with childcare during local school district breaks.We are looking for people who possess a positive attitude, dependability and a strong sense of integrity who are also customer service savvy, fun yet professional, and be able to tactfully communicate and work with children, parents, and community members participating in the Carmel Youth Center programming.

  • Assists staff members with a variety of basic tasks, such as sorting and organizing supplies, setting up activities and projects, assisting with lunch and/or snack time, cleaning, supervising and mentoring children, and completing minor administrative tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Assists in setting up and maintaining facilities for events and scheduled programs.
  • Assists with organizing sports activities, and helps to maintain safety protocols during sports and outdoor time.
  • Instructs various arts, crafts, games, and sports, and learns the rules and techniques.
  • Assists in the enforcement of rules, regulations, and safety precautions.
  • Recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Maintains recreation facilities and equipment in clean and safe condition.
  • Provides information, instructions, and assistance to the public within scope of authority and training; assists customers with requests, program participation, applications, and other documents.
  • Supports the relationship between the Carmel Youth Center and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and families; maintains confidentiality of members of the Carmel Youth Center and program participants; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements:

  • Have the maturity and integrity to act, speak, and behave appropriately with children.
  • Enjoy working with and engaging with children ages 5 to 14 years old.
  • Be able to work flexible hours. Normal business hours are 8:30am - 5:30pm.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Be able to attend training sessions and monthly staff meetings.
  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint background screen and drug test prior to hire.

Opportunity Training 

Students will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and the Program Director. Training will be provided.
