Opportunity Summary 

This is a RESERVED position for 4 students whom I have previously agreed to supervise. It is not an open application.
Position Description: PSYC300 Teaching Assistant
Teaching assistants will help instructor to monitor individual student progress, offer support to students, hold office hours, and assess course assignments.

Learning Outcomes  

By the end of the internship the student will be able to:
1. Use functions in Canvas to monitor student progress
2. Evaluate course materials for quality and consistency
3. Assess course assignments using rubrics and best-practice methods
4. Interact with students in a positive, supportive manner

Training  

To help the student achieve the proposed learning outcomes, I will:
1. Guide students through the functions available on Canvas to assess student participation and progress
2. Teach assistants the importance of clear course materials and how to review materials for quality, consistency, and ease-of-use
3. Show assistants how rubrics are developed and applied, as well as modified based on response characteristics
4. Demonstrate methods of supportive feedback

Tasks/Duties  

The intern will demonstrate the learning outcomes by:
1. Monitoring and maintaining close contact with their assigned students via weekly general outreach and specific outreach to students who request help or are deemed to be struggling
2. Critically reviewing course materials and providing feedback to the instructor, which will be discussed with all teaching assistants
3. Developing a rubric or improving an existing rubric in consultation with the instructor and then applying it in their assessment
4. Engaging in conversation with the instructor and participating in role-playing scenarios
