Opportunity Summary 

The caregiver is responsible for providing support to residents who require assistance with daily living activities. The main goals are to promote comfort, safety, and independence for residents, regardless of whether they are living with disabilities, older age, or recovering from illness, all in a home-like setting.

Duties include:

- Assist residents in moving safely out of beds, chairs, wheelchairs, and support walking, or provide help with other mobility needs.

- Help residents with personal hygiene, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and using the restroom.

- Aid residents with meal preparation, planning, and feeding if needed.

- Remind and help administer prescribed medications for residents.

- Observe and report changes in residents' health or behavior to the supervisor.

- Spend time with residents and encourage participation in activities to promote mental activity and social connections

- Provide emotional support as needed.

- Assist in light housekeeping duties, including laundry, tidying of living areas, changing bed linens, and wiping kitchen counters.

- Shop for household products and groceries as needed.

- Accompany residents to appointments and social events as needed.

- Accurately chart residents' current conditions and vital signs.

Training:

Orientation and introduction: The Intern will receive a tour and overview of the facility's values and expectations with the facility administrator.

Training: Training will occur on the intern's first week of employment, with further days of training added as needed. The first day will include learning about each resident and their needs. In addition, training on organizing prescription medications in organizers for the residents, and ensuring medications are properly stored.

Shadowing: The intern will be scheduled with the main caregiver, who will train the intern to offer proper hands-on support for the residents.

- Learn and demonstrate safe techniques when assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility support.
- Develop effective communication strategies and skills for interacting with residents, families, and healthcare professionals.
