Opportunity Summary 

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, a strong team player and student-oriented intern will coordinate and implement strategic outreach and community engagement efforts to increase awareness of and enrollment into OCAPICA’s Youth Suicide Prevention Media & Outreach Program - LUNA. The candidate must have the ability to build and maintain rapport with students, fellow interns, OCAPICA staff, and AUHSD faculty. The candidate will spend a majority of their time working with high school level youth. Ability to work with diverse ethnic and cultural communities is a must, including, but not limited to the following target populations: students of color, LGBTQIA+, and/or undocumented immigrants of varying ages between 13-18. This is a position where student hours and workload are considered and accommodated.

Tasks:

- Works as a team to develop, coordinate, and implement youth leadership-development activities.
- Work with High School youth to develop social/ethnic media campaign related to suicide prevention, and access to school and community mental health services and resources. .
- Support in training youth on mental health topics, wellness, peer support, mentoring and campaign messaging
- Assist youth with hosting Suicide Prevention and mental health trainings for peers, teachers, administrators, and parents/families.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, workshops and outreach events.
- Maintain reporting and documentation requirements.
- Assist with other duties as they relate to the program or agency

- Weekly preparation meetings with team

- Facilitate and plan youth workshops and events
- Train and lead high school youth leaders

- Learn the structure of a nonprofit organization and how it operates
- Increase their interpersonal skills working with high school youth

Skills:

- Bilingual in Spanish - Highly Desired
