Medical Assistant InternAt — Desert Childrens Urgent Care

Will work as a front and back office medical assistant in order to gain experience in the field. 

Tasks:

- perform basic patient examinations and procedures
- conduct basic laboratory tests
- apply and remove bandages and dressings
- schedule patient appointments
- verify patient insurance
- handle phone calls and emails
- learn to chart and take vital signs

Training:

Job shadowing , weekly meetings with the supervisor, a mandatory orientation

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to take vitals, interact with patients, observe the Doctor with basic procedures, perform an EKG, and understand emergency preparedness.
