OCAPICA Youth Social Media InternAt — Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA)

Opportunity Summary 

Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, a creative and initiative intern will coordinate and implement strategic social media efforts to increase awareness and promotion of OCAPICA’s Youth Suicide Prevention Media & Outreach Program - LUNA. The intern will assist in the development and execution of social media strategies across various platform. They will help create engaging content including graphics, videos, and photography to showcase OCAPICA Youth Programs.

Occasional opportunities to work with high school and junior high youth expected. Ability to work with diverse ethnic and cultural communities is a must, including, but not limited to the following target populations: students of color, LGBTQIA+, and/or undocumented immigrants of varying ages between 13-18. This is a position where student hours and workload are considered and accommodated.

Tasks:

  • Create engaging content including graphics, videos, and photography to showcase OCAPICA Youth Programs
  • Monitor social media channels for trends, engagement, and audience feedback
  • Collaborate with Supervisor and OCAPICA Youth Team on best practices for creating a sustainable social media implementation system
  • Help manage social media accounts by creating a posting schedule and responding to audience inquiries
  • Create and edit video content (recap videos, reels, promo videos) to showcase OCAPICA Youth Programs on social media platforms 
  • Assist in creating promotional materials to increase funding opportunities (impact reports, data analyzing, graphics)

Training:

  • General employer orientation
  • Weekly preparation meetings with team

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn to create content that aligns with OCAPICA's Youth Department goals
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and creating social media content in a sustainable structure  
  • Improve creative skills in graphic design and content creation
  • Understanding the importance of deadlines, communication, and accountability.
    • Work on a diverse team consisting of youth staff and interns
    • Learn the structure of a nonprofit organization and how it operates

    Skills:

    • Experience with Canva, Video-Editing, Photography, and Graphic Design are desired
