Residential Care Student InternAt — Leisure Towers II Residential Care, Inc.

Opportunity Summary 

The student intern will be responsible for assisting in coordinating treatment and service delivery for adults with severe and persistent mental illness. 

Tasks:

The student will prepare documentation and provide treatment updates for mental health conservatorship reappointments'.

The student will collaborate with government, medical and behavioral health professional/s and/or agencies.

The student will provide treatment updates and community resources to family.

The student will deliver (1) client centered activity a week to help enhance the clients' social skills.

The student will assist in facility Admissions process by reviewing referrals, interviewing clients and coordinating discharge.

Training:

A two week orientation will review the facility program and policies; including OC Health Care Agency contract requirements.

Educate the student on the DSM-V, California Welfare and Institutions Codes, Lanterman-Petris-Short Act, applicable laws, standards and regulations as part of orientation.

The supervisor will provide learning observation and in-depth instruction daily and 1:1 weekly supervision to review progress and academic compliance.

The student will be shadowed during all client and family interactions to ensure safety and to provide instruction and feedback.

Expose the student to educational community forums taught by the OC Health Care Agency and/or other agencies bi-monthly.

Learning Outcome:

Gain and understanding of adult psychological disorders, co-occurring disorders and substance use disorders.

Gain and understanding of human development. Specifically, adults from age 18-59.

Gain and understanding of assessment, intervention and treatment of psychological disorders.

Gain an understanding of laws pertaining to psychiatric holds, residential treatment centers, patient's rights and mental health conservatorship.

Gain an understanding of cultural competency, family dynamics, interpersonal skills and counseling theories and techniques.
