CSUF Center for Healthy Neighborhoods is a nonprofit organization located in the Northern Region of Orange County, targeting low- income children and families in in the city of Fullerton. CSUF Center for Healthy Neighborhoods’ mission is to join community residents and other stakeholders to alleviate education and health disparities, revitalize neighborhoods, and reduce the cycle of poverty for low-income children and families.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student Office Assistant at CSUF Center for Healthy Neighborhoods is a student worker position designed to provide Cal State Fullerton students with valuable professional experience in a community-centered environment. This role supports the Center’s daily operations and outreach efforts, offering opportunities to develop skills in program coordination, content creation, and communications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with other Center staff to successfully implement the Academic Success Program (ASP). ASP hours of operation: 3 PM – 6:30 PM, M-T-W-TR.
- Ensure that the ASP’s daily activities are coordinated and provided in a high-quality format.
- Prepare programming and services for the next-day and close the Center.
- Support accurate data entry and record-keeping.
- Develop outreach materials such as flyers to support Center ASP activities.
- Other duties assigned to support the success of the ASP.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual: English and Spanish.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Culturally competent, with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by immigrant and Latino/a communities.
- Ability to work ASP hours of operation: 3 PM – 6:30 PM, M-T-W-TR.
- Ability to work independently while being an active and collaborative team member.
Training:
Training begins the first few weeks prior to the beginning of the semester. Student Office Assistant and intern will be trained on Center policies and procedures, best practices for academic tutoring children and youth, and resilience and self-regulation training. Attend mandatory ASP group training prior to start of ASP consisting of:
- learning/understanding needs of community and people served
- effective ways of communicating w/children & families
Learning Outcomes:
- Develop critical thinking skills to identify and connect the CSUF student intern with the tutee’s individual needs and challenges.
- Facilitate reflective discussion by asking thought-provoking questions, open-ended questions that support the CSUF student interns learning.
- Demonstrate an inclusive and culturally diverse learning environment.
- Apply educational and learning concepts to address parental support
