Opportunity Summary 

The LGBT Center Intern supports the staff and community with operations and services provided by the Losquadro Keller LGBTQ Resource Center at Cal State Fullerton. The intern will provide support with outreach and retention of the LGBTQIA+ student community by greeting and engaging students that visit the center. The intern will also support and promote the LGBT center at outreach events that focus on free community resources. The intern will complete a project or program that reflects their skills and knowledge related to their major, with intersectional elements of LGBTQIA+ identity development, education, or resource sharing.

Learning Outcomes  

  1. Oral Comprehension–The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
    ii. Oral Expression–The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking soothers will understand
    iii. Written Expression–The ability to communicate information and ideas inwriting soothers will understand
    iv. Problem Sensitivity–The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is are membered object
    v. Active Listening–Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
    vi. Monitoring–Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action

Training  

  1. Through our center manual and in person conversations, Interns will be provided with the foundational knowledge and history of the LGBTQ+ community and culture including terminology, LGBTQ+ identity development theory, and allyship/advocacy of the community. They will be trained on fundamental skills related to the basics of professional and office culture, centrally focusing on communication, outreach, and project development. Interns will meet on a weekly basis with the center coordinator
