Undergraduate Teaching Assistant-B. TorrAt — CSUF - College of Humanities & Social Science
Student will assist with in-class activities and help facilitate class for Sociology 351: Sociology of Family Life section on MW 1-2:15pm for Fall 2025. Student will use knowledge learned in previous enrollment in the course to help update lectures and assignments for the course and provide peer support. With support from the professor, student will begin to learn the basics of classroom teaching from syllabus construction, assessment design, classroom activities and lectures, and assessment. Student will do some assessment of participation and reading knowledge checks using rubrics to gain experience with assessment--all will be reviewed by instructor and grades assigned by instructor.
Learning Outcomes
1) Develop a deeper understanding of key issues in sociology of the family. 2)Communicate both orally and written about family life. 3) Understand the fundamentals of developing and delivering andin-person course and have familiarity with a range of aspects of teaching. 4) Provide peer support for course material.
Training
Include them in the development of the syllabus and activities for the course. Have them work with me to update the course lectures and activities to reflect current events. Present on a topic of their choosing and develop and activity for the course. Help them understand the relationship between course activities and grading rubrics and learn to develop and use rubrics for assessment/feedback.
Tasks/Duties
Attend the course M/W 1-2:15pm and provide support during activities and discussions.
Help update lectures and activities with current material under the direction of the instructor.
Meet with the instructor as needed to discuss pedagogy and course material, progress.
Provide student feedback and assessment using rubrics.
Provide peer support as needed by students during office hour.
