Opportunity Summary 

Interns will gain hands- on experience in a professional setting, including opportunities to observe sessions, assist with case management develop treatment resources, and participate in supervision and team meetings. The internship will offer valuable exposure to day- to- day operations of a mental health practice, while supporting the growth of a future professional in the field.

Tasks:

Observation & support threw shadowing clinician in intakes, phone screenings and therapy sessions (as appropriate).
Case management assistance: confirming appointments, rescheduling, filing and preparing plans/ materials for sessions.
Introduction to clinical documentation, treatment planning, billing and progress notes.
Program and resource development through creating handouts, worksheets for clients
Professional development- Engage in self- reflection activities and discussions about ethical practice, cultural competency and client centered care.

Training:

General employer orientation, 2x weekly one- on- one mentor meeting, job shadowing, skills training, modeling, literature and provision of work samples.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to:
1) Develop clinical skills- gain experience observing and assisting mental health sessions, learning how evidence based- practices (such as CBT, DBT or mindfulness) are applied in real life settings.
2) Strengthen professional competencies- Build skills in documentation, case management and client communication while adhering to ethical and legal standards in behavioral health.
3) Enhance self- awareness and career readiness- reflect on personal strengths, professional growth, areas for development to prepare for future roles in the mental health field.
