Guitar Assistant Teaching InternAt — Alisal Center for the Fine Arts (ACFA)

Opportunity Summary 

The Guitar Assistant Teaching Artist Intern will support ACFA’s guitar program, which provides
free instruction for youth at all levels. Interns will assist with tuning, instrument setup, classroom
support, and mentoring students during rehearsals and performances. This role offers hands-on
teaching experience in a culturally-rooted music program.

1 Service Learner Slot

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist students with tuning, technique, and practice routines.
  • Support teaching artist during group lessons and rehearsals.
  • Help prepare students for recitals and community performances.
  • Maintain and organize guitars and related equipment.
  • Encourage persistence, discipline, and confidence in youth musicians.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in music education and cultural arts.
  • Ability to play guitar at a basic–intermediate level (chords, strumming, tuning).
  • Willingness to support beginner-level students in small groups or one-on-one.
  • Familiarity with performance preparation (recitals, ensemble playing) a plus.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings (Tues & Thurs, 5–9pm).
