Independent Living Service ProviderAt — Shield Of Dream
Interns will be providing support to adult individuals with intellectual disabilities. Responsibilities include teaching individuals living skills to help gain knowledge/skills that will follow them through life and communicating with team members and service coordinators regarding progress and concerns with allocated consumers. By the end of the internship, the student will be able to coordinate care, have conversations that pertain to how to best support those in need, and be able to research resources around the community focused on individuals the intern will be working with. Students will be participating in field training with higher positioned providers who teach students skills, note taking, and situational case monitoring for a couple weeks before starting on their own case load. Students will also participate in CPR and seizure training, bi weekly team meetings for additional trainings, and weekly check-ins with supervisors for support. Tasks will include; communicating with service coordinators hired by regional center, teaching independent living skills to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities, interacting with other students and employees surrounding work sessions, being creative in ideas to support consumers emotionally and offering guidance to help consumers navigate every day life with confidence and resilience, frequently interacting with caregivers, guardians, regional center, and supervisors.
Tasks:
The intern will be doing tasks throughout the company that include communicating with service coordinators hired by regional center, teaching independent life skills to individuals with intellectual disabilities, interacting with other interns/employees surrounding work functions and sessions, being creative in ideas to help support the emotional regulations of clients, frequently interacting with caregiver, guardians and regional center, and taking daily notes on progress of clients.
Training:
Intern will participate in field training with higher positioned providers who teach skills, note taking, and situational case monitoring for weeks before starting on their own. Intern will complete CPR and seizure training, bi weekly team meetings for additional reminders/training, and weekly check ins with supervisors for support.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the internship, the student will be able to coordinate care, have conversations that pertain how to best support those in need, be able to research resources around the community that focus on those the intern will be working with.
