Opportunity Summary 

As a classroom volunteer for Girls Inc. of Los Angeles, you will support program instructors with meaningful activities and structured lessons from our core tenets, Strong, Smart, and Bold, after school. Volunteers will engage and support elementary and middle school students ( grades 1-8). Girls Inc. fosters a pro-girl environment that encourages girls to be their authentic selves in a socially and emotionally safe environment. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers to help equip girls with confidence and skill sets to navigate the world. Classroom volunteers assist instructors with weekly activities once or twice a week from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, 2 to 3 hours a day at one of our partnering LAUSD locations in West and South Los Angeles. What does this role involve? Help girls with activities and answer their questions. Participate in classroom discussions and outdoor activities. Be a positive role model.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Learning outcomes of a classroom volunteer role are hands-on experience working with youth ages 6-15, with curriculum and activities related to STEM, literacy, art, and healthy living. Role modeling a positive and supportive peer attitude; students will inspire and motivate youth to explore and ask questions related to curriculum and strengthen mentorship engagement. Students will gain an overview of a classroom environment, student engagement, and support classroom instructors while observing classroom management and facilitation.

Opportunity Training 

Girls Inc. of Los Angeles requires a school safety orientation that reviews the LAUSD Code of Conduct, Mandated Reporter process ( Students will be required to complete certification online), and on-site incident protocols to ensure the safety of youth and adults.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Girls Inc. partners with the Los Angeles Unified School District, and programs are on-site across six South Los Angeles locations. Staff and students will be onsite during school and after-school hours only.
