Project Angel FoodAt — Project Angel Food

Opportunity Summary

Project Angel Food provides free, medically tailored meals to Angelenos with critical illnesses. We're looking for volunteers to help us prepare and package around 3,000 meals/day at our Hollywood location. Volunteers prepare and package medically tailored meals for a population that is home bound.

Tasks vary in the kitchen, but you can count on some people being needed for things like veg prep and many needed for assembly-line-style preparation of our meals. We will also have people working our sealing machine and adding nutrition labels to each meal as a final step. Depending on the need that day, a few folks may be asked to help in our Dispatch area, where we prepare breakfast bags for clients and organize meals for delivery. (And if anyone is uncomfortable with a specific task, we encourage them to speak up. We'll find them something that's better suited for their skill and/or interest level.) Occasionally we have office-related tasks where students could be of help.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

The opportunity will be 3-4 hours per week. Rudimentary kitchen skills from food preparation and packaging. Problem solving skills in developing more efficient ways of preparing, packaging and storing meals. Time management and cooperative team development skills are also acquired.

Opportunity Training

All students are required to go through an orientation in which we discuss standards and expectations. No kitchen skills are required to participate.

All volunteers will be equipped with hairnets, gloves, and an apron.
