Opportunity Summary 

California State University, Fullerton in collaboration with City of Anaheim-Public Utilities Department is developing and implementing an internship program designed to highlight and promote careers in the public sector and utility industry.

As part of the collaboration, the Center for Educational Partnerships department will support and oversee CSUF student interns that will be placed within various divisions of the Anaheim Public Utilities Department. Under direct supervision of the Center for Educational Partnerships Associate Director and the Anaheim Public Utilities Liaison, the intern will perform a variety of entry-level professional administrative staff work, gradually increasing in level of difficulty and responsibility as the incumbent receives on-the-job training related to the business, technological, engineering and operational activities of a department.

Tasks:

· Meet with the Center for Educational Partnerships Internship Coordinator to set work schedule and attend mandatory related career/professional development sessions and progress meetings.
· Develops and maintains strong and professional relationships with the Anaheim Public Utilities personnel, community partners, and CSUF staff.
· Participate in analytic studies by conducting routine research, identifying samples, and assembling and compiling data in well-defined areas related to administrative regulations; policies, procedures, systems, methods, reports, surveys, and forms.
· Apply basic statistical and management analysis technique; or with detailed instructions, advanced statistical and management techniques in analyzing data.
· Assist in writing instructions, procedures, guides, and manuals to describe and improve administrative, technological, and operational methods and systems.
· Research problems, discrepancies, and respond to routine inquiries related to the business, technological, and operational activities of the assigned department.
· Effectively utilize the capabilities and functions of standard office software applications such as data management, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing in completing assigned projects.
· Prepare reports, presentations, operational documents, and correspondence containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content related to business, technological, and operational activities subject to review and editing by higher-level staff members.
· May assist in updating web site contents and making suggestions on information layout.
· May conduct field work.
· Other duties as assigned.

Training:

Trainings will include general employer orientation, weekly one-on-one check in meetings with the special projects coordinator, regular check-ins with the APU general services manager, job shadowing an training, career building workshops, and other trainings as needed.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to work in a professional setting, have an understanding of how public utilities is structured, and have an understanding of working in the public sector
