PT volunteerAt — Weststar Physical Therapy DTLA
The student volunteer will support Physical Therapists, PTAs, and aides by maintaining treatment areas, ensuring smooth clinic operations, and assisting patients when appropriate. These duties can include, but is not limited to, changing table paper, refilling missing materials (towels, therabands, hand sanitizer, etc…), returning and cleaning used equipment, shadowing PT evaluations/treatments, and observing/assisting in therapeutic exercises.
Tasks:
Job shadowing PT and PTAs, assisting with patients when appropriate
Training:
General employer orientation, job shadowing
Learning outcome:
1. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able identify what muscles and/or muscle actions are being used during specific exercises.
2. By the end of the academic internship, the student will understand anatomical directions, planes, and positions.
3. By the end of the academic internship, the student will be introduced to different types of musculoskeletal injuries and diagnoses.
4. By the end of the academic internship, the student will have been exposed to over 100 therapeutic exercises routinely utilized in clinical practice.
