Volunteering in an EHS classroom provides hands-on experience supporting infants and toddlers ages 0–3. Volunteers assist teaching staff with daily routines, including transitions, meals, playtime, and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. They engage children in developmentally appropriate activities such as stories, music, art, and sensory play. Volunteers help set up materials, support learning through play, and model positive interactions. This role offers valuable experience in early childhood development, responsive caregiving, and supporting social-emotional and language growth for young children.
By the end, the student will be able to engage effectively with infants and toddlers ages 0–3 in an Early Head Start classroom setting. The student will support daily routines, assist with transitions, and help create a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment. They will demonstrate the ability to interact positively with young children, participate in planned learning activities, and promote early language, social-emotional development, and sensory exploration. The student will also understand classroom expectations, practice maintaining a safe and organized environment, and apply responsive caregiving strategies that support each child’s growth and development.
Training will be provided by classroom staff on meaningful interactions, and development appropriate activities.
All site safety information will be review with her during her onsite volunteer orientation.
