Housing Programs Intern (Spring 2026)At — Pathways of Hope

Opportunity Summary 

The Housing Intern will collaborate with our Case Managers to provide support to our housing programs and housing assistance to families and individuals requesting services. The intern will have the opportunity to engage in various elements of housing navigation and case management through many of our current programs, gaining insight into daily operations and responsibilities. They will be able to interact with families and individuals at our emergency shelter and at our scattered-site PSH locations, identify resources to address their challenges, assist with housing-related searches, sustainability and support, guide clients through the homeless system, and ensure successful housing placements are attained and sustained. The interns will also learn how to complete intakes and record-keeping, document case notes, and any other duties as assigned.  

 

The Housing Intern(s) will be assigned the following tasks/responsibilities: 

  • Assisting families and individuals with housing navigation 

  • Assisting with identifying resources and providing support through the housing process 
  • Supporting our housing programs  

  • Supporting our Case Managers with daily tasks for our emergency shelter and PSH programs

  • Completing assessments and intakes and maintaining case files and documenting case notes.  

  • Supporting day-to-day operations, such as calling back clients on the housing line and searching for housing or other resources for clients, as necessary

    • Connecting with prospective properties to build up landlord connections for all participants 

    • Maintaining record keeping and documents  

    • Attending internal and community meetings as necessary 

    • Address other duties as assigned 

    Training 

    All interns receive onboarding training which details and overview of the agency as well as all programs. Site visits are conducted, and supervisory staff introductions are conducted. Ongoing training takes place within the roles/duties an intern performs alongside the housing navigator and supervisor. All interns will get a chance to be a part of all internal training offered by the agency to better help inform the work we do.

    1. Understand all components of housing navigation and case management
    2. Understand housing and food insecurity in Orange County
    3. Become familiar with the Orange County Homeless System and how to navigate through it
    4. Become familiar with the community resources in Orange County
    5. Become trauma-informed and housing-first and prevention/diversion knowledgeable when working with community members at-risk of or experiencing homelessness
