HELS Campus RepresentativeAt — Jewish Family Service San Diego

Opportunity Summary

The JFS Higher Education Legal Services (HELS) team provides free immigration services at college campuses in San Diego County, but many people within the immigrant community do not know these services exist. Sign-ups for services have decreased recently, and the HELS team would like to find a way to increase engagement with community members. The HELS team at JFS is looking for a volunteer who attends, or is very familiar with a college or university campus where HELS services are available, to help raise awareness around these services. Volunteers can help by making connections on campus, contacting key campus members to promote Immigration services, and conducting research to identify additional audiences who may be able to benefit from the immigration services.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

Student volunteers will learn more about services available to the immigrant community while building networking skills.

Opportunity Training

Students will receive training on what type of services and opportunities the HELS program provides so they can share that with the on-campus immigrant community. Students will shadow a JFS staff member first before being asked to volunteer independently.
