Community Services InternAt — City of Fullerton, Councilmember District 3
Intern will assist the Councilmember in community relations and public services for residents of District 3. In the process, the intern will apply the Health in All Policies framework in creating and promoting community events.
1) Set up and staff community meeting(s) for the public at large.
2) Promote and plan community meeting(s) through working with professional city staff.
3) Draft minutes of community meeting(s).
4) Analyze community trends and needs in relation to the Health in All Policies framework.
Training:
1) Weekly check-in meetings with the Councilmember by Zoom.
2) Review of the Health in All Policies framework in the first meeting so that it can be applied throughout the internship.
3) Explanation of City Council function, composition, jurisdiction and duties.
4) Mentorship in leading community meetings and interacting with the public.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship, the students will be able to:
1) Apply the Health in All Policies framework to actionable community events that will promote improving social determinants of health to improve community health outcomes,
2) Describe a City Councilmember’s responsibilities and jurisdiction.
3) Interact with the public in a professional manner and lead community meeting(s), reporting on findings to the Councilmember.
