Dental Assistant/Student ObserverAt — Mammoth Dental
To observe front office, chair side assisting, dental hygiene and general dentistry
Tasks:
There are many options depending on what the student expresses interest in. Print and finalize dental appliances, set up a room for a procedure, review patient chart and discuss periodontal diagnosis, read x-rays.
Training:
HIPAA training via video. Tour of premises and equipment with safety overview. On the job training with dental assistants for simple/routine tasks. Weekly mentorship meetings with three dentists and at least one dental hygienist. We can modify what to focus on and who can be the student's main mentor based on the student's interests. Each dentist that works with us has different experiences, training and expertise.
Learning Outcomes:
The student will be able to observe and interact with every member of the dental team. By the end of the academic internship, the student will have exposure to all aspects of working in a general dental office. They will receive HIPAA training, be trained to use autoclave and help with sterilizing instruments, get basic overview of periodontal diagnosis and treatment modalities, assist/observe dental hygienist and dentist for basic procedures, learn how to use 3D printer and design .stl files, and learn how to interact with patients in a professional setting.
