The PSYC 391 Teaching Assistant provides essential instructional and administrative support to the course instructor. This role requires a solid understanding of Industrial-Organizational (I/O) psychology principles to accurately assess student work and provide guidance. In addition, successful applicants must be detail-oriented, possess excellent communication skills, and have completed PSYC 391 with a minimum grade of A-.
Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate the ability to accurately evaluate work by applying standardized rubrics to assignments.
Develop instructional and tutoring skills by providing academic support to students.
Gain proficiency in utilizing Canvas to support instructional workflows.
Strengthen communication and problem-solving skills by managing weekly office hours.
Training
Review a small sample of student assignments together to ensure the intern can accurately and consistently apply the standardized rubrics before grading independently.
Offer mentorship to model effective communication and instructional techniques.
Hold regular check-ins to discuss challenges encountered during office hours and provide constructive feedback on their problem-solving skills.
Tasks/Duties
Grading assignments reliably and in a timely manner.
Assisting with maintaining course modules, posting announcements, and monitoring student engagement.
Holding office hours to address student inquiries and support the resolution of administrative or academic concerns.
Conducting tutoring sessions to support student learning.
Create supplemental study materials (e.g., FAQs or review guides).
