Tasks:
Tracking and analyzing membership revenue, including new enrollments, recurring billing, retention rates, and cancellations to evaluate financial performance and identify trends.
Maintaining and updating Excel-based financial dashboards that monitor sales performance, cash flow, operating expenses, and monthly revenue targets.
Preparing financial reports that summarize weekly and monthly performance, comparing actual results to budgeted goals and identifying variances.
Supporting financial forecasting by reviewing historical sales data, promotions, and seasonal trends to project future revenue and expenses.
Conducting cost and profitability analyses for marketing campaigns, promotional events, and operational expenses to assess return on investment and efficiency.
Assisting with pricing and membership package evaluations by analyzing revenue per member, churn rates, and conversion data to support strategic decision-making.
Participating in basic accounting and reconciliation activities, including reviewing transaction records, tracking expenses, and supporting cash flow monitoring.
Collaborating with management on financial strategy, presenting findings, making data-driven recommendations, and assisting in operational planning based on financial insights.
Training:
The student will receive a structured and supportive training program designed to ensure meaningful learning and professional development throughout the internship. Training will begin with a general employer orientation, which will introduce the organization’s mission, operations, workplace expectations, confidentiality standards, and the role of financial data in supporting business decisions.
The student will participate in weekly one-on-one mentor meetings with management to review assignments, discuss progress, receive feedback, and connect their work to financial and business concepts. These sessions will also be used to set goals and address questions.
The student will engage in job shadowing with leadership and administrative staff to observe real-world financial operations, including revenue tracking, budgeting, reporting, and decision-making within a high-volume fitness and wellness facility.
Hands-on skills training and workshops will be provided in areas such as Excel, financial reporting, dashboard creation, forecasting, and cost analysis. The student will receive real work samples and historical data to practice analysis and reporting in a practical setting.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:
