HEALTH CARE AGENCY
The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) is a regional provider, charged with protecting and promoting individual, family and community health through coordination of public and private sector resources.

Specialized Medical Services is comprised of multiple divisions that provide oversight of care and delivery of care to some of the most vulnerable pediatric and adult populations in Orange County. These include California Children’s Services, Office of the Public Guardian, Emergency Medical Services and Health Disaster Preparedness. In addition, the Employee Health Services division provides oversight of the occupational health of the County of Orange’s 18,000 employees.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Health Disaster Preparedness Section of the Orange County Health Care Agency is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals for an unpaid clerical internship. This is an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates interested in public health, emergency management, or administrative operations to gain hands-on experience supporting disaster preparedness initiatives that protect the health and safety of Orange County residents.

Tasks:

Interns will assist with a variety of clerical and administrative tasks, including but not limited to:

- Organizing and maintaining electronic and physical files
- Data entry and spreadsheet management
- Assisting with meeting preparation and note-taking
- Supporting inventory tracking and supply management
- Preparing outreach materials and documentation
- Conducting basic research to support planning efforts
- Other duties as assigned by program staff

Training:

As a part of this internship, students will complete.

1. General Training (Mandatory)
2. Completion Introduction to the Incident Command System (IS 100)
3. Completion of the Standardized Emergency Management System Introduction online course (SEMS G606)
4. Routine check in meetings with mentor
5. Other training as available by the department

Learning Outcome:

By the end of this internship, the student will be able to:

1. Gain foundational knowledge of public health principles and departmental processes to understand how administrative tasks support disaster preparedness and response.
2. Develop basic research skills to gather and synthesize information that supports program planning efforts.
3. Gain proficiency in accurate data entry and learn to manage spreadsheets for tracking and reporting purposes.
4. Enhance communication skills by working collaboratively with program staff and responding to administrative requests.
