Public Relations Representative \u25cf Respond to requests for information from our community or designate an appropriate spokesperson or information source. \u25cf Plan or direct development or communication of programs to maintain favorable public or community perceptions of an organization's accomplishments, agenda, or environmental responsibility. \u25cf Study the objectives, goals, and needs of our strategic partners and organizations to develop public relations strategies that will infl uence a greater impact for the communities we serve. \u25cf Communicate with our sponsors and strategic partners to arrange promotional marketing campaigns in all types of media for products, organizations, or individuals. \u25cf Develop marketing campaigns for the organization’s events and programs. \u25cf Post and update content on the company's Web site and social media outlets. \u25cf Write press releases or other media communications to promote organizations events, business members, and programs. \u25cf Confer with our strategic partners and business members to identify trends or key group interests or concerns or to provide advice on business decisions. \u25cf Confer with production or support personnel to produce or coordinate production of advertisements and/or marketing promotions. \u25cf Assist our business members with resource navigation and connecting them with our strategic partners. \u25cf Prepare or edit organizational publications, such as monthly newsletters, event recaps and key updates to our business community. \u25cf Develop plans or materials to communicate organizational activities that are benefi cial to the region and communities we serve. \u25cf Prepare or edit organizational publications, such as monthly newsletters or key event updates , for internal or external audiences. \u25cf Arrange conferences, networking events, mixers, and trainings for business members to increase product or service awareness or to promote economic growth. \u25cf Plan or conduct surveys to members and communicating the results to our members, strategic partners and management.

Initial Onboarding
General Employer Orientation (Mandatory)
Students will complete a comprehensive orientation covering XBN's mission, organizational structure, signature events (RECON, PROCON, X-Awards), key stakeholders, workplace policies, brand guidelines, and organizational systems including website CMS, social media platforms, and member database.
Ongoing Mentorship
Weekly One-on-One Mentor Meetings
Interns meet weekly with XBN leadership team to review project progress, receive feedback on work products, discuss challenges, set priorities, and connect internship experiences to learning outcomes and career development.
Experiential Learning
Job Shadowing
Interns shadow XBN leadership team members , sponsor meetings, event planning sessions, member consultations, and community presentations to observe professional communications in action.
Workshops & Skills Training
Structured training sessions cover professional writing (press releases, newsletters), social media strategy, event marketing, graphic design basics, media relations, survey design, and cultural competency when serving diverse small business communities.
Guided Practice
Provision of Work Samples
Interns receive exemplar materials including previous press releases, social media campaigns, event marketing content, newsletters, presentation decks, and partnership proposals to establish quality standards and organizational voice.
Overview/Contextualization of Assigned Tasks
Supervisors provide background on each project's purpose, target audiences, connection to organizational goals, relevant stakeholders, and clear expectations for deliverables and timelines.
Assessment
Interns maintain a work portfolio, final performance reviews, and complete reflective exercises connecting practical experience to learning outcomes.
Training Literature
Interns receive curated resources on nonprofit public relations best practices, community engagement strategies, diversity-focused marketing, and social media analytics.
