Behavioral TechnicianAt — Center for Skills Development LLC

Opportunity Summary

The Behavioral Technician Intern will work under the direct supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to support the implementation of individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs for children with developmental delays and autism spectrum disorder. The intern will assist in delivering structured and naturalistic instructional activities, collecting and recording behavioral data, supporting behavior intervention strategies, and participating in supervision and training experiences. This internship is designed as a professional learning experience to expose the student to ethical, evidence-based ABA practices, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration in home, school, and/or community-based settings.

Tasks:

The Behavioral Technician Intern will engage in the following professional and pre-professional duties under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA):

Implement individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) treatment programs, including structured teaching (e.g., discrete trial instruction) and naturalistic teaching strategies in home, school, and/or community settings.

Collect, record, and manage behavioral and skill-acquisition data using established data collection systems, and assist in summarizing data to monitor client progress.

Support the implementation of behavior intervention plans, including prompting, reinforcement, antecedent strategies, and response procedures as outlined by the supervising BCBA.

Participate in client-specific training, session preparation, and review of treatment protocols, goals, and ethical requirements.

Observe BCBA-led sessions and participate in job shadowing to develop clinical judgment, procedural fidelity, and professional skills.

Attend supervision and mentorship meetings, contribute to discussions regarding client progress, and reflect on clinical performance and professional growth.

Assist with preparing session materials, instructional stimuli, and data sheets aligned with treatment goals.

Maintain professional documentation and follow ethical and legal standards related to confidentiality, professional boundaries, and client rights.

Communicate professionally with supervisors and, when appropriate, caregivers or team members regarding session activities and client progress under BCBA guidance.

The duties are designed to ensure that the majority of the student’s responsibilities are professional or pre-professional in nature and focused on developing clinical, ethical, and applied competencies in the field of behavior analysis.

Training:

At the start of the internship, the student will complete all required state-mandated and company onboarding trainings, including orientation to company policies, confidentiality (HIPAA), mandated reporter requirements, professionalism, and safety procedures.

The student will then complete a 40-hour paid foundational training program, delivered virtually and self-paced, focused on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) terminology, core concepts, ethics, data collection methods, teaching procedures (e.g., discrete trial training, natural environment teaching), and behavior intervention strategies. This training ensures the student develops a strong theoretical and procedural foundation prior to and alongside direct client involvement.

Before working with assigned clients, the student will receive client-specific training, including review of treatment plans, behavior intervention plans, data collection systems, and demonstration/modeling of procedures.

Throughout the internship, the student will receive ongoing supervision and mentorship from a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), including regular scheduled supervision meetings, in-session feedback, performance modeling, and competency-based coaching. Training will also include continuous review of data, debriefing after sessions, and professional skill development related to ethical practice, documentation, and communication.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:

Implement basic Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) teaching procedures (e.g., discrete trial instruction, natural environment teaching, prompting, and reinforcement) with fidelity under BCBA supervision.

Collect, record, and summarize behavioral data accurately (e.g., frequency, duration, and skill-acquisition data) to support data-based clinical decision making.

Apply behavior intervention strategies to support skill development and reduce maladaptive behaviors while following ethical and professional standards.

Demonstrate professional conduct in a clinical setting, including maintaining client confidentiality, effective communication with supervisors and caregivers, and adherence to organizational policies.

Collaborate with the supervising BCBA to reflect on client progress and participate in supervision meetings to identify strengths, areas of growth, and next steps in intervention.
