Students will strengthen professional communication, documentation, and boundary-setting skills while working within an interdisciplinary treatment team. Additionally, they will develop an understanding of trauma-informed care, ethical responsibilities, and client safety protocols, preparing them for future roles in psychology, counseling, social work, or related mental health professions.
Students receive comprehensive training to ensure success in their responsibilities, including a multi-day orientation on program policies, safety protocols, professional boundaries, trauma-informed care, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication. They are trained in evidence-based practices such as DBT and CBT, crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and medication management. Because students work with minors and other vulnerable populations, Mandated Reporter training is required and provided. Ongoing support includes weekly staff supervision trainings and individual weekly check-ins with supervisors to review performance, address questions, and promote continued skill development.
POPULATION SERVED: Students may be working with minors, elderly, behaviorally challenged populations or individuals who have a known criminal background or history of violent behavior.
Students will be working primarily with adolescents and other vulnerable populations in a residential therapeutic setting. All interactions with clients, including one-to-one sessions, will occur under the supervision of trained staff or clinical supervisors to ensure safety and compliance with program policies. Students will never be left alone with minors without oversight. Safety protocols include trauma-informed practices, crisis intervention, and CPI techniques, with staff actively monitoring and supporting students during client interactions. Students will also participate in weekly staff supervision trainings and individual weekly check-ins to review interactions, address questions, and reinforce best practices for working with this population. This ensures that students gain meaningful experience while maintaining the highest standards of safety and ethical care.
