Opportunity Summary 

Under the supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Youth Leader – Expanded Learning Programs (ELP) is responsible for the direct supervision of program participants, and for the daily planning and implementation of expanded learning program activities. The Youth Leader collaborates with other team members, families, and school personnel to provide participants with academic support, enrichment activities, and other student programs that increase student skill building, encourage healthy choices and behaviors, promote diversity and equity, support youth voice and leadership, and increase overall academic achievement. The Youth Leader position requires high energy, dedication, patience, and a strong desire to mentor youth, strengthen families, and serve the community.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

By the end of the opportunity, staff participants may acquire enhanced professional and leadership skills. These include improved communication and teamwork skills, stronger classroom and behavior management strategies, and increased understanding of active supervision and student engagement. Staff will build skills in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities, supporting positive behavior, and creating inclusive, safe learning environments. Participants may also strengthen problem-solving, leadership, and time-management skills while gaining greater confidence in their role working with youth, families, and school personnel.

Opportunity Training 

Staff participants will receive comprehensive training to support their responsibilities. Training includes orientation on program policies and procedures, child safety and supervision expectations, and behavior guidance strategies. Participants will be trained on activity planning and implementation, active supervision, positive communication, and youth engagement techniques. Additional training may include trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, diversity, equity, and inclusion, emergency procedures, and collaboration with site supervisors, school staff, and families. Ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities will be provided to support continuous growth and effective performance.
