Opportunity Summary 

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Physical Therapy Intern to join our clinical team. This internship is designed for students pursuing a career in physical therapy who are looking to gain hands-on experience in an outpatient setting. Interns will work closely with licensed physical therapists to develop clinical skills, professional communication, and a strong foundation in patient care.

Tasks:

Assist PT during tx sessions with Therex and fxn interventions. 2, 3. 4 Hr/Wk
2. Support patient flow, equipment setup, and clinic organization. 2, 5. 3 Hr/Wk

3. Observe evaluations, participate in post-session clinical discussion. 1, 3. 2 Hr/Wk

4. Analyze movement patterns and discuss impairments. 1, 3. 2 Hr/Wk

5. Reinforce therapist-directed patient education when appropriate. 4. 1 Hr/Wk

6. Review documentation and discuss clinical reasoning behind notes. 5. 1.5 Hr/Wk

7. Participate in weekly case discussions or mentorship check-ins. 1, 6. 1 Hr/Wk

8. Complete reflective journaling or senior project-related summaries. 6. 2 Hr/Wk

9. Assist with outcome measure setup or data collection. 1, 5. 1 Hr/Wk

Training:

1. Clinical Application and Reasoning:
a. Apply foundational anatomy, kinesiology, and exercise science knowledge to real-world outpatient physical therapy cases.
b. Explain the rationale for common interventions used in orthopedic and/or neurologic rehabilitation.

2. Patient Interaction & Clinical Support:
a. Assist with therapeutic exercises, functional activities, and patient flow under PT supervision
b. Interact confidently and professionally with patients during treatment sessions
3. Movement Analysis & Observation
a. Identify common postural, movement, and functional impairments observed during treatment
b. Describe how these impairments influence exercise selection and progression

4. Patient Education Support
a. Reinforce therapist-provided patient education, including home exercise programs, posture, and activity modification, as appropriate
5. Clinic Operations & Documentation Awareness
a. Demonstrate understanding of outpatient clinic operations, scheduling flow, and documentation standards
b. Observe and discuss documentation structure without independent charting responsibility

6. Professional Development & Career Preparation
a. Demonstrate growth in professional communication, confidence, and clinical readiness
b. Reflect on clinical experiences to inform future education and career goals in physical therapy or related fields
