Special Education/Instructional Assistant InternAt â Los Angeles Leadership Academy
The Instructional Assistant supports teachers and students in the classroom by providing instructional, behavioral, and organizational assistance. This role helps create a positive, inclusive learning environment and supports student academic growth, engagement, and well-being.
Tasks:
Assisting teachers with classroom instruction, including small-group and one-on-one student support
Supporting students with academic tasks such as reading, writing, math, and organization
Observing and assisting with classroom management and positive behavior support strategies
Preparing instructional materials, organizing classroom resources, and supporting learning centers
Assisting with intervention groups and enrichment activities
Supporting English learners and students with diverse learning needs, as directed by supervising staff
Supervising students during transitions, recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal
Observing student progress and communicating relevant information to supervising staff
Supporting social-emotional learning activities and restorative practices
Maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with school policies
Training:
Weekly mentor meetings, attend professional development/workshop
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to apply foundational educational and instructional support practices in a Kâ12 school setting to effectively support student learning and classroom instruction.
