Position: Marketing Intern (Unpaid) – Discovery Cube Orange County

As a member of our Marketing Team, the Marketing Intern will play a supportive role in social media, PR, creative production, on-site signage, and marketing efforts, gaining valuable experience in a collaborative setting. You will work closely with all members of our Marketing Team to support marketing efforts across a myriad of brand paid, earned, social, and owned channels. This is a part-time, unpaid internship, requiring a commitment of 2-3 days per week, approximately 4-5 hours per day.

Tasks:

Support the planning, coordination, and execution of marketing initiatives across paid, owned, earned, and social media channels.

Assist with content creation for digital platforms, including drafting social media copy, organizing visual assets, and supporting campaign storytelling.

Participate in marketing project workflows by maintaining calendars, tracking deliverables, and managing production timelines using spreadsheets and digital tools.

Assist in the preparation and execution of media events, on site activations, and creative productions, including organizing materials and coordinating logistics.

Support public relations and partnership efforts by researching opportunities, assisting with outreach preparation, and organizing related materials.

Collaborate with marketing team members on campaign development, brainstorming sessions, and evaluation of marketing opportunities.

Coordinate with third party vendors and community partners under staff supervision to support marketing and promotional initiatives.

Analyze and organize marketing data, reports, and documentation to support informed decision making.

Observe and participate in strategic discussions related to branding, audience engagement, and campaign effectiveness.

Training:

Students will receive a structured onboarding and ongoing support throughout the internship. Training begins with a general employer orientation, including an overview of Discovery Cube’s mission, marketing goals, brand standards, workplace expectations, and safety procedures.

Students will receive regular guidance and mentorship from the Marketing Team through scheduled check ins, task reviews, and feedback. They will participate in job shadowing and hands on training across social media, content creation, media events, and production coordination.

Students will be provided with examples of past campaigns, templates, and work samples, along with training in relevant tools such as spreadsheets and project management systems. Ongoing instruction and contextualization of assignments will help students understand how their work supports broader marketing strategies.

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:

Apply foundational marketing principles by supporting and contributing to campaigns across paid, owned, earned, and social media channels within a real world nonprofit organization.

Create and organize marketing content and materials for digital platforms, on site signage, and media initiatives, demonstrating an understanding of brand consistency and audience engagement.

Support the coordination of marketing projects and workflows by managing calendars, organizing production materials, maintaining spreadsheets, and assisting with day to day team operations.

Collaborate effectively with a professional marketing team and external partners, gaining experience in communication, teamwork, and vendor or community partnership coordination.

Demonstrate professional growth in digital marketing and media production by participating in social media strategy discussions, media events, and creative production efforts tied to organizational goals.
