Instructional AideAt — Fullerton School District
Oversees and assists individual, small and large groups of students in a variety of expanded learning academic, enrichment and recreational activities;
(The intern will be supervised at all times by staff and a supervisor)
\u25cf Provides homework assistance to help students meet state standards in core academic subjects, both reinforcing and complementing the schools academic program;
\u25cf Leads and participates with students in positive youth development and recreational activities, e.g., visual and performing arts, music, health & nutrition, physical activity and recreation activities;
\u25cf Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal recreational and learning environment;
\u25cf Assists with a variety of records, reports and program materials for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting district and program compliance requirements;
\u25cf May perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the site.
Tasks:
Maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with students, fellow employees, teachers and administrative staff;
\u25cf Follow oral and written instructions;
\u25cf Assist individual, small and large groups of children in various instruction and recreation related activities;
\u25cf Provide support for regular academic programs, with activities in literature, music, art, math oral language and physical education;
Training:
General orientation will be given, as well as weekly follow-ups for feedback. The student will also be collaborating with colleagues on enrichment opportunities for students.
Learning Outcomes:
Strengthen instructional planning and delivery
Develop the ability to plan and lead small-group and whole-class lessons aligned to state standards, using differentiated strategies to meet diverse student needs. This includes observing mentor teachers, co-planning lessons, and gradually taking on lead teaching responsibilities.
Build effective classroom management and student engagement skills
Learn and consistently apply positive behavior supports, routines, and engagement strategies that create a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment. Focus on proactive management, relationship-building, and culturally responsive practices.
Develop professional collaboration and communication skills
Strengthen the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, specialists, and families by participating in team meetings, contributing instructional insights, and communicating student progress in a clear, professional manner. Focus on understanding school policies, special education processes, and ethical responsibilities to prepare for a lead teaching role.
