Opportunity Summary 

It is an opportunity to read with students in small groups while parents are at workshops. Books are provided, along with snacks, a mini training, and support to readers. Student groups are approximately 3 to 6 and the grade levels range from Kinder to 6th grade. Reading last approximately 1 hour, following the reading there is a literacy faire and prior there is a key note speaker.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Volunteer readers will have the opportunity to acquire literacy instruction opportunities, by reading in small groups, asking comprehension questions and supporting actve listening skills of the students. They will be given learn how to engage students in small group reading and how to facilitate a small reading group, as well as manage group transitions.

Opportunity Training 

Mini training will be provided to demonstrate how to conduct a read aloud, facilitate a small group with guiding questions.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Volunteer readers will be require to register online prior to on site event. The day of they will be asked to check in at the guest reader station, wear a name badge at all times.
