Women’s Outreach & Recovery Intern Ministry Overview
The Women’s Outreach & Recovery Intern serves alongside church leadership to support and encourage women impacted by incarceration, addiction, and family separation. This role exists to help women experience hope, healing, and restoration through the gospel of Jesus Christ and consistent biblical discipleship.
Primary Responsibilities (under church leadership supervision):
Women’s Drug & Alcohol Recovery Ministry (Weekly)

Assist in weekly recovery gatherings for women

Support Bible-based discussions focused on freedom, accountability, and spiritual growth

Provide prayer, encouragement, and Christ-centered support
Women’s Outreach Support Group (Weekly)

Help support a weekly group for women who have been incarcerated or have family members in prison

Foster a safe, welcoming, and grace-filled environment

Encourage spiritual growth through Scripture, prayer, and testimony
Discipleship & Support

Walk alongside women through prayer and encouragement under ministry oversight

Connect participants to church resources and discipleship opportunities

Maintain confidentiality, healthy boundaries, and integrity at all times
Spiritual & Character Qualifications

A professing Christian with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

A heart for women in recovery and those impacted by incarceration

Spiritually teachable, dependable, and compassionate

Agreement with the church’s statement of faith and ministry values

Purpose Statement
This internship exists to equip women to walk in freedom and restoration through the transforming power of Jesus Christ—bringing hope into prisons, recovery spaces, and broken lives.
Training:
Training Provided During Placement
Students placed in the Women’s Outreach & Recovery Internship will receive structured, supervised, and ongoing training designed to support spiritual formation, ministry competence, and practical skill development. Training will include the following components:
1. Initial General Orientation (Mandatory)
At the start of the placement, interns will participate in a required orientation that includes:
Overview of the church’s mission, values, and statement of faith
Introduction to the Women’s Outreach & Recovery Ministry structure
Review of expectations, responsibilities, boundaries, and accountability
Confidentiality policies, ethical guidelines, and code of conduct
, safety protocols, and compliance requirements
2. Weekly One-on-One Mentorship Meetings
Interns will meet weekly with a designated ministry mentor or supervisor to:
Review ministry experiences and assigned responsibilities
Discuss spiritual growth, challenges, and prayer needs
Receive biblical guidance, encouragement, and feedback
Evaluate progress toward learning outcomes
Address boundaries, ethics, and pastoral care concerns
3. Job Shadowing & Observational Learning
Interns will observe experienced ministry leaders during:
Weekly women’s recovery meetings
Outreach support group facilitation
This allows interns to:
Learn effective teaching and facilitation methods
Observe Christ-centered communication and pastoral care
Understand appropriate conduct in sensitive ministry environments
4. Gradual Supervised Participation
Following observation, interns will be progressively involved in ministry activities under supervision, including:
Assisting with group discussions
Participating in prayer ministry
Supporting small-group interactions
Helping with lesson preparation or Scripture reading
Responsibilities increase as competency and confidence develop.
5. Workshops & Skills Training
Interns will receive periodic training in key ministry areas such as:
Biblical foundations of recovery and restoration
Trauma-informed ministry principles
Discipleship and pastoral care basics
Effective communication and active listening
Maintaining healthy boundaries in ministry
Workshops may be provided in small-group formats, seminars, or guided discussions.
6. Instructional Resources & Training Materials
Interns will be provided with:
Scripture-based curriculum used in recovery and prison ministry
Training literature related to recovery, reentry, and discipleship
Church policies, ministry manuals, and teaching outlines
Assigned reading may be discussed during mentorship meetings to reinforce learning.
7. Contextualization of Assigned Tasks
Before performing ministry duties, interns will receive:
Clear explanations of the purpose and biblical foundation of each task
Context regarding the population being served (incarcerated women, women in recovery, families affected by incarceration)
Guidance on expected outcomes and appropriate conduct
This ensures that interns understand why tasks are assigned, not just how to perform them.
8. Ongoing Evaluation & Feedback
Intern performance will be evaluated through:
Regular mentor feedback
Observation during ministry activities
Periodic review of learning outcomes
Reflection discussions and self-assessment
Corrective guidance and encouragement will be provided as needed.

This structured training approach ensures that interns are equipped spiritually, emotionally, and practically to serve women impacted by incarceration and addiction with wisdom, compassion, and biblical faithfulness, while meeting clearly defined learning outcomes.

Build healthy, Christ-centered relationships with women from diverse and difficult backgrounds
Communicate with clarity, compassion, and discretion in ministry settings
