Opportunity Summary 

The Program support/Intern/volunteer assists with the analysis of all activities under the specific program assigned as well as scheduling volunteers for ongoing tasks and for staffing events. Program support is designed for all youth programs-daycare, afterschool, and camps for youth 3-17 and women programs for holistic thinking, feminine and masculine balancing, retreats, and violence prevention.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

PROGRAM SUPPORT INTERN — LEARNING OUTCOMES Your Program Support interns gain hands‑on experience in community programming, event coordination, communication, and nonprofit operations. By the end of their service hours, they will have developed practical skills that prepare them for future roles in community engagement, public service, education, and program management. 1. Program Operations Outcomes Interns will be able to: • Support the setup, flow, and breakdown of community programs (markets, food distributions, star parties, youth activities). • Assist with vendor check‑in, youth sign‑ins, and participant engagement. • Understand how community events are planned, staffed, and executed. • Follow operational procedures and safety protocols. • Coordinate with multiple teams (vendors, volunteers, youth, resource partners). 2. Communication & Engagement Outcomes Interns will learn to: • Communicate clearly and professionally with vendors, families, youth, and community partners. • Greet and orient participants at events. • Share program information and guide families through activities (Passport Program, Earth Keepers, Night Sky content). • Support outreach efforts by distributing flyers, sharing program updates, and answering questions. • Represent ASCENDtials and MDBA with warmth, clarity, and cultural competency. 3. Youth & Family Support Outcomes Interns will be able to: • Assist youth with Passport Program activities and learning stations. • Support Earth Keepers and Astronomy Club engagement. • Facilitate simple activities for children and families. • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment for diverse community members. 4. Administrative & Organizational Outcomes Interns will learn to: • Maintain sign‑in sheets, attendance logs, and basic program records. • Support the preparation of materials (supplies, handouts, activity kits). • Organize program bins, storage, and event supplies. • Assist with scheduling, reminders, and communication tasks. • Follow checklists and contribute to program readiness. 5. Problem‑Solving & Leadership Outcomes Interns will develop: • Confidence in handling real‑time challenges during events. • The ability to anticipate needs and respond proactively. • Skills in supporting team members and stepping into leadership moments. • A sense of responsibility for community-centered work. 6. Cultural & Community Awareness Outcomes Interns will gain: • Understanding of ASCENDtials’ mission around Earth stewardship, cultural knowledge, and community empowerment. • Awareness of local resource partners and the services they provide. • Experience working in diverse, multilingual, intergenerational community settings. • Insight into how markets, food distributions, and youth programs strengthen community resilience. 7. Deliverables Interns Will Produce By the end of their hours, interns will have: • Supported at least one major program (market, food distribution, star party). • Completed a set of program checklists (setup, engagement, breakdown). • Logged accurate attendance or participation data. • Assisted with at least one youth or family activity. • Contributed to program materials or outreach tasks. • Completed a reflection on their learning and impact. 8. Impact on ASCENDtials & MDBA Program Support interns help: • Strengthen event flow and participant experience. • Increase youth and family engagement. • Support vendors and resource partners. • Maintain consistency and quality across programs. • Expand the reach of Earth Keepers, Astronomy Club, and Passport Program content. They become the hands, heart, and energy that keep your programs running smoothly.
