About the Role

Miracles for Kids is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable Community Programs Intern to support two of our signature family programs: Surf & Paddle Summer Camp and Basket of Miracles. This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit event planning, family engagement, and program operations. The intern will assist with preparation, outreach, and day-of logistics to help create meaningful, joyful experiences for families with critically ill children.

This role requires on-site support during event days and travel to local event locations.

Responsibilities

Event Planning Support

  • Assist with event preparation, supply organization, and packing materials
  • Track registrations and update attendance lists or spreadsheets
  • Prepare family packets, forms, and event materials
  • Conduct reminder and follow-up calls, texts, or emails to families
  • Support vendor, volunteer, and donation coordination tasks
  • Help organize inventory, donations, and storage
  • Write family stories for Holiday Basket of Miracles

Event Day Execution

  • Provide on-site support at Surf & Paddle Summer Camp and Basket of Miracles distributions
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of event spaces, tables, and supplies
  • Support check-in, registration, and family wayfinding
  • Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) assistance and answer basic questions
  • Support staff and volunteers to ensure events run smoothly

Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent graduate (public health, social work, psychology, nonprofit management, or related field preferred)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable making phone calls and interacting with families
  • Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented
  • Interest in nonprofit, community work, or event planning

Requirements

  • Must be available on-site for all event days
  • Travel required to various Orange County event locations
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with event setupProfessional, compassionate, and family-centered approach
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Tasks:

- Assist team with event logistics and coordination (Basket of Miracles, Surf & Paddle Camp)
- Data tracking and inventory tracking (stats of programs, track incoming donations and organizing them)
- Family engagement and communication
- Call program families for various needs (updated information, inform them of upcoming programs, etc.)

Training:

- Intern orientation
- weekly supervision meetings with the Senior Coordinator/Coordinator
- shadowing team on various tasks/projects
- hands-on training with tasks

Learning Outcome:
