About the Role

Miracles for Kids is seeking a compassionate, dependable Community Programs Intern to support Miracle Manor, our housing program serving families with critically-ill children. The Community Programs Intern will support the day-to-day programming and community engagement efforts at Miracle Manor. This intern will assist with resident activities, family communication, and summer programming logistics to help create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for families.

This role is ideal for students or early-career individuals interested in nonprofit work, social services, housing programs, or community engagement who want hands-on experience working directly with families in a residential setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and preparing family activities, workshops, and community events
  • Set up and break down rooms, supplies, and materials for programming
  • Support weekly summer programming every Tuesday (check-in, logistics, cleanup)
  • Conduct reminder calls, texts, or emails to families about events and activities
  • Track attendance and update simple spreadsheets or program databases
  • Organize donations, supplies, and storage areas
  • Support volunteers and staff during larger events and special activities
  • Assist with general administrative tasks and special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Current college student or recent graduate (public health, social work, psychology, nonprofit management, or related field preferred)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working with children and families
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and team-oriented
  • Interest in nonprofit, social services, or community work

 Requirements

  •  Must be available every Tuesday from mid-June through early August (some exceptions may apply)
  • Live Scan/background clearance required prior to start
  • Reliable transportation to Miracle Manor sites
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and assist with event setup
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Tasks:

- Assist with planning and preparing family activities, workshops, and community events

Training:

- Intern orientation
- Hands on training with the Community Programs Coordinator
- Weekly supervision meetings
- Shadowing the Community Programs Coordinator

Learning Outcome:

- Know how to plan and coordinate programming for a housing site or similar
- Have strong communication skills for speaking with families in a trauma-informed manner
- Know basic program operations on how to run a program
