Tobacco Use Prevention Program InternAt — County of Orange
TUPP has many volunteer opportunities for individuals who are interested in working on tobacco prevention, education, and cessation activities.
Volunteer opportunities may include the following:
Conducting community research and background work.
Promoting TUPP’s projects at health fairs and community events.
Educating community members on tobacco-related issues and promoting the County of Orange’s free tobacco cessation helpline, 1-866-NEW-LUNG.
Developing and updating media, educational, and promotional materials.
Assisting with clerical work (assembling resource packets, etc.).
Tasks:
1. Creating health education materials.
2. Conducting youth vaping prevention presentations.
3. Tabling at community events and providing program materials.
4. Conducting observation surveys at retail stores and apartment complexes to collect data on secondhand smoke and tobacco product waste.
5. Participate in program staff meetings, coalition meetings, workgroup meetings, and virtual webinars.
Training:
1. Initial program orientation and Tobacco 101 training.
2. How to take coalition meeting minutes training.
3. Weekly check-in meetings with internship preceptor.
Learning Outcome
1. Describe the services available through the County's 1-866-NEW-LUNG cessation helpline.
2. Understand the mission and goals of the Tobacco Use Prevention Program.
3. Provide tobacco/vaping prevention and cessation education to community members at health fairs and other community events.
