Program Intern, El CentroAt — Mt. San Antonio College - El Centro, The Center for Latinidad

Opportunity Summary 

El Centro at Mt. SAC is seeking a motivated and proactive student interns to join our team as a Program Intern. This role is designed for a para-professional who is highly engaged with the campus community and has a strong interest in supporting cultural, identity, professional, and personal development. As a Program Intern, you will play a crucial role in planning and promoting El Centro services to the Mt. SAC community, ensuring that students and staff are informed about available resources.

Program Interns also assist in co-curricular development with planning workshops, events, and pop-up tabling. This position involves direct engagement with students, staff, and the broader campus community through various communication platforms, including Listserv, social media, and tabling at events.

Key Responsibilities:

Community Engagement:

  • Serve as a community contact for El Centro.
  • Provide regular updates on El Centro programs/events through assisting with weekly Listserv, Social Media platforms, and event tabling.
  • Ensure students and staff are well-informed about available services, resources, and eligibility requirements.

Event Support and Outreach:

  • Assist with event planning and coordination for El Centro events.
  • Provide support during events, including distributing informational materials, answering questions, and directing individuals to appropriate resources.
  • Set up and maintain a designated area in the new 16F building to provide consistent and accessible information.

Collaboration and Involvement in Meetings:

  • Attend and participate in El Centro planning meetings, contributing insights and recommendations related to event programming.
  • Conduct research and report findings, complete assigned tasks and provide updates, assist other team members on larger
  • Collaborate with other departments and resources on campus to ensure consistent messaging and outreach.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Provide regular updates to El Centro on the status of assigned area(s) and projects.
  • Communicate directly with students, staff, and faculty to address inquiries and provide clear, accurate information.
  • Assist department with collecting and maintaining data, administering evaluations

Additional Duties:

  • Assist with additional tasks and projects related to El Centro and as assigned.

Tasks:

1. Provide center day-to-day assistance (student rooms, faculty office hours assistance, events/programs, relaxed study space utilizations, loan library, referrals).
2. Research, plan, and produce a Fall Calendar of Events.
3. Provide the center a recommendation of practices for future consideration for staff/interns.

Training:

1. Intern will attend on boarding meeting with Director
2. Intern will attend a staff training retreat
3. Intern will attend weekly check-ins with supervising team
4. Intern will be assigned a mentor professional staff

Learning outcome:

1. Intern will be able to understand the mission of the California Community College, Mt. San Antonio College, and the El Centro Program.
2. Intern will be able to analyze and critically use culturally affirming practices to inform services and programming needs.
3. Intern will be able analyze and communicate student needs.
4. Inter will be able to discuss, collaborate, and connect with other student and academic programs to address student needs.
