Tasks:
During this placement, students will be responsible for a range of professional and pre-professional duties that support both client service and business development within a financial advisory practice.
Interns will assist in preparing financial plans by gathering client data, organizing financial information, and supporting the development of recommendations under advisor supervision. This includes working with planning tools, reviewing investment allocations, and helping prepare materials for client meetings.
They will conduct research on financial products, market trends, and planning strategies to support advisor recommendations and ongoing client needs. Interns may also assist in analyzing client portfolios and identifying areas for follow-up or improvement.
Students will help create and organize client-facing materials such as presentations, meeting summaries, and follow-up communications. They will also observe and, when appropriate, participate in client meetings to better understand relationship management and advisory conversations.
In addition, interns will support business development efforts by helping identify prospective clients, assisting with outreach strategies, and contributing to marketing or content initiatives.
Throughout the internship, students will complete structured assignments tied to the program’s learning plan, including case studies, scenario-based exercises, and reflections that demonstrate their understanding of financial advising concepts.
These responsibilities are designed to ensure that the majority of the intern’s time is spent on meaningful, skill-building work that reflects the responsibilities of an entry-level financial advisor and supports the achievement of defined learning outcomes.
Training:
During this placement, students will receive a structured and hands-on training experience designed to support both technical knowledge and professional development.
At the start of the internship, students will participate in a general employer orientation to understand the firm’s structure, expectations, compliance standards, and overall approach to client service. This provides important context for the work they will be doing.
Throughout the program, interns will have weekly one-on-one meetings with a designated mentor to review progress, ask questions, and receive ongoing feedback. These meetings are designed to reinforce learning, address challenges in real time, and help interns connect their day-to-day tasks to broader business objectives.
Students will also engage in job shadowing with financial advisors and team members across different roles, giving them exposure to client meetings, financial planning processes, and business development activities. This is complemented by a structured 10-week learning plan that includes workshops and deep-dive sessions led by various advisors and staff, covering topics such as client relationship management, financial planning strategies, and practice management.
In addition, interns will be provided with sample work, guided assignments, and clear context around each task to ensure they understand both the “how” and the “why” behind their responsibilities. They will have access to relevant training materials and may be asked to complete light research or review industry literature to build foundational knowledge.
Overall, the program is designed to combine observation, guided practice, and direct mentorship to create a well-rounded learning experience that prepares students for a career in financial advising.
