The MBA/MHA Summer Internship Program internship provides a structured opportunity for students to apply theories, ideas, principles, and skills learned in the classroom to healthcare practice. The internship experience also provides students an opportunity to better understand healthcare organizations, their culture, management systems, operations, resources, products, services, markets, service areas, and specialty areas.
The internship affords students an outstanding opportunity to enhance the skills needed to become a successful healthcare administrator. As life-long learners and healthcare management practitioners, students will continue to develop and grow knowledge, skills, professionalism, and competencies.
TASKS
- Anticipates and leads ongoing planning and execution of internship projects as assigned by the mentor and advisors.
- Obtains, analyzes, synthesizes, and interprets industry and institutional data, as well as market utilization and financial data. Assists in obtaining and evaluating benchmark data.
- Performs independent analysis of workflow processes, operational, financial and statistical information.
- Prepares presentations and quality reports.
- Presents, communicates and disseminates findings.
- Maintains a current knowledge of emerging healthcare challenges facing hospitals and healthcare systems nationally

LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Develop an understanding of the common values shared by all healthcare professional at MD Anderson.
- Interact and learn valuable insights from administrative fellows who are a part of the MD Anderson Cancer Administrative Fellowship Program.
- Provide hands-on and real-world experience by conducting a 11-week project under the mentorship of a professional with relevant and related background in the field.
- Introduction to complex organizational dynamics through a combination of shadowing and integration in the day-to-day activities of a team.
Internship involves initial three day training in Houston, Texas. Remainder of the internship will be performed remotely.
