Donor & Volunteer Engagement InternAt — Serving People in Need, Inc. \\SPIN\\
- Assist with weekly sack lunch assemblies, provide leadership to volunteer team, instruct new volunteers, conduct inventory
- Oversee food pantry and basic needs operations, organizing, stocking/inventory
- Assist site supervisor at Corporate Social Responsibility activities and occasional community appearances
- Occasionally shop for supplies for above activities (requires own transportation)
- Utilize newsletter mailing list and social media platforms to recognize and connect to donors and resources for basic needs (food, clothing, hygiene, household, etc.), including for our Corporate Social Responsibility Program
Tasks:
Assist in the creation and distribution of newsletter and social media communications for the purpose of increasing community engagement and volunteerism. Manage the procurement of supplies (ordering, in-person shopping & transporting), perform regular inventory checks, communicate with volunteers/delivery drivers, and instruct new volunteers in tasks related to our weekly sack lunch program benefitting local homeless shelters. Assist site supervisor, when available, at Corporate Social Responsibility activities and occasional community appearances. Keep basic needs resources in an organized, clean, and accessible manner, such as monitoring food for expiration dates, storing or donating off-season clothing items, and assembling basic needs kits when resources are available.
Training:
CSUF intern will shadow existing interns for approximately 2 weeks, until existing interns exit the assignment, and CSUF intern takes over. CSUF intern will share an office with his/her site supervisor, who will provide instruction and mentorship on all tasks described. CSUF intern will also be invited to occasional staff meetings, to meet the entire team and report on his/her progress in the execution of duties. Team members may also utilize these opportunities to offer guidance and encouragement in his/her area of study. CSUF intern will receive guidance from site supervisor and long-term volunteers in the execution of the sack lunch assembly program until he/she feels confident in taking over as the leader of said activity. Evaluations will occur in accordance with CSUF’s intern policies.
Learning Outcome:
IBy the end of the internship, the student will have increased knowledge in:
• Conducting community outreach via event, in-person, email and social media communications.
• Leading volunteers in outreach activities, such as sack lunch and basic needs kit assembly events, etc.
• Maintaining in-house resources such as food pantry, clothing, shoes, hygiene and household items available for our client families, including inventory, procurement and distribution.
• Program administration such as recording volunteer hours, in-kind donations, and outreach contacts using available database programs.
