Information Technology InternAt — Vallecitos Water District
The Vallecitos Water District Information Technology Internship offers students and emerging professionals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting the technology systems that help deliver reliable water and wastewater services to the community. Interns will work alongside District staff on a variety of projects involving computer systems, cybersecurity, networking, software support, data management, and troubleshooting. This internship provides valuable real-world experience in public sector IT while helping interns develop technical, communication, and problem-solving skills in a collaborative team environment.
By the end of the internship, students may develop practical knowledge and skills in information technology support, computer hardware and software troubleshooting, cybersecurity awareness, networking fundamentals, data management, and customer service. Interns will also gain experience working in a professional office environment, collaborating with multiple departments, communicating technical information effectively, and supporting the technology systems that help operate a public water and wastewater agency. Additionally, students may strengthen their problem-solving, critical thinking, and project management abilities through hands-on assignments and real-world applications.
Students will receive hands-on training and mentorship from Vallecitos Water District Information Technology staff. Training may include instruction on District computer systems and software, help desk procedures, cybersecurity best practices, network and hardware fundamentals, troubleshooting techniques, data management processes, and safe workplace practices. Interns will also receive guidance on professional communication, customer service, and working effectively within a public agency environment. Ongoing support and feedback will be provided throughout the internship to help students build confidence and expand their technical skills.
General office safety requirements. Student may be required to lift computers and monitors which should not exceed 10 pounds.
