Opportunity Summary

We're looking for a motivated Communications student to join our digital marketing team. In this role, you'll assist with managing social media accounts, creating content, monitoring analytics, and supporting email marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in Communications or Marketing, has strong written and verbal skills, and has at least a basic understanding of platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok. Knowledge of tools like Canva or Google Analytics is a plus. In return, you'll gain experience and professional mentorship.

Tasks:

  • Develop and schedule weekly social media content across platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok) using a content calendar, aligned with brand voice and campaign goals.
  • Research and write copy for email marketing campaigns using Mailchimp, including audience segmentation and subject line testing.
  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance using Google Analytics and platform insights, producing bi-weekly reports with data-driven recommendations.
  • Conduct competitor and audience research to identify trends and opportunities to improve digital reach and engagement.
  • Assist in planning and executing at least one full digital marketing campaign from concept to post-campaign analysis.
  • Create and edit digital content assets including graphics and short-form video using Canva, tailored to platform-specific best practices.
  • Participate in team strategy meetings, contributing ideas and documenting campaign updates.
  • Prepare a final presentation summarizing key projects, skills gained, and marketing insights developed throughout the placement.

Training:

The student will begin with a mandatory General Employer Orientation covering company culture, tools, and an overview of current campaigns, followed by weekly one-on-one mentor meetings to review progress and provide feedback. Throughout the placement, the intern will engage in observing how the team plans content, builds campaigns, and interprets analytics.
Platform training will cover tools such as Google Analytics, Canva, and the student will be provided with existing work samples to understand brand standards before producing independent work. Each assigned task will include a brief session and the intern will complete a short digital marketing literature review at the start of the placement to ground their experience in current industry best practices.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:

  • Plan and execute digital marketing content across multiple social media platforms with a consistent brand voice and audience in mind.
  • Analyze campaign performance using tools like Google Analytics and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Develop professional written communications, including social media copy, email marketing content, and basic marketing reports.
  • Collaborate effectively within a professional marketing team, managing deadlines and contributing to real campaigns.
  • Apply communications theory and coursework to real-world digital marketing strategies and problem-solving scenarios.
