Athletic Trainer AideAt — Mt. San Antonio College - Athletic Training
As an athletic training aide, the intern will gain supervised experience in sports medicine by assisting the certified athletic trainer in the injury prevention and evaluation, injury rehabilitation and recovery, and administrative work that occurs within the workday. Responsibilities include hands-on tasks like taping, stretching, and exercise programming, as well as administrative duties such as injury documentation and facility maintenance.
Tasks:
Duties will include designing and documenting rehab programs for athletic injuries with the assistance of the ATC. They will also perform daily AT Clinic duties of set up and break down of events. They will perform injury evaluations and assessments of athletic injuries.
Training:
General orientation meeting, Job shadowing, weekly emergency management scenario practices, review of educating athletes on technique and supervised assessments of athletes for injuries, conditions, and illnesses on the field or court, including concussions.
Learning Outcome:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will have encountered hands on experience in gaining practical skills under a supervised environment and observe/participate in daily operations of athletic training staff. They will be able to apply therapeutic techniques and develop strong communication skills. They will build relationships with sports medicine professionals and coaches.
