TDRC Mentorship Support InternAt — CSUF - Titan Dreamers Resource Center

The purpose of the DIRC Mentorship Program is to foster meaningful connections between students — including those who may be impacted by the immigration system — and experienced student-mentors. The program provides personalized support and guidance that strengthens participants’ sense of belonging throughout their academic journey, helps them achieve their academic goals, develop professional skills, and confidently prepare for post-graduation career pathways.

Tasks:

Mentors will brainstorm and help plan cohort meetings to provide educational workshops, meet with assigned mentees and foster connection and guide mentees by using SMART goals, plan follow up meetings and content to review with mentees based on previous conversations, introduce new resources to mentees, and attend all necessary mentorship meetings and one-on-ones with Coordinator.

Training:

Summer training in July 2026 (dates TBD), weekly one-on-one meetings with Coordinator, mentorship handbook training, and DIRC and TDRC protocol training.

Learning Outcomes:

By participating in the Mentorship Program, student mentors will be able to:

Develop Leadership Skills
Demonstrate effective leadership through active listening, goal-setting facilitation, and providing constructive feedback.
Reflect on their leadership growth and identify strategies to support diverse mentee needs.
Strengthen Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Practice inclusive communication strategies that foster trust, respect, and a sense of belonging for mentees — including those impacted by the immigration system.
Demonstrate improved ability to navigate challenging conversations and offer encouragement.
Enhance Awareness and Support
Identify barriers faced by students from diverse backgrounds and practice inclusive mentorship approaches.
Assist mentees by connecting them with appropriate campus and community resources.
Grow Professional Competencies
Apply organizational and time-management skills to plan and maintain regular mentorship meetings.
Articulate skills gained through mentorship (leadership, collaboration, problem-solving) in résumés, interviews, or graduate school applications.
Foster Community and Belonging
Engage in program activities that create a welcoming and supportive environment for mentees.
Serve as a role model that promotes student success and community.
