Opportunity Summary 

Procedure Assistant / Medical Scribe

Tasks:

Charting: Accompany the provider into patient rooms to dictate and document histories, physical exam findings, and treatment plans

Procedure Assistance: Prepare trays, assist in room preparation, clean up, and procedures.

Clinical Intake: Room patients

Documentation Management: Scribe for providers

Training:

We will have the intern complete a 16-hour orientation outlining the policies, tasks, assignments, and responsibilities for the intern.

16 hours of training where the non-paid intern will shadow a senior assistant to gain knowledge

We will perform a weekly performance review with the intern.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Medical Terminology & Anatomy: Fluency in clinical vocabulary, anatomy, and standard medical abbreviations is necessary to understand and transcribe provider dictation without slowing down.

EHR Navigation: Comprehensive understanding of Electronic Health Record software and order-entry modules.

Regulatory Compliance: Strict, working knowledge of patient privacy and security guidelines like HIPAA.

Basic Pharmacology: Familiarity with common medication names, dosages, and classifications

SKILLS:

Fast and Accurate Typing: Proficiency in typing (typically 60-80+ WPM) to accurately capture complex clinical conversations in real-time.

Multitasking: Ability to listen to a physician-patient conversation, transcribe the details, and navigate the EHR all at once.

Attention to Detail: Meticulous precision in recording dosages, diagnoses, and test results

Active Listening: The ability to pull relevant medical information and instructions from conversational exchanges between the doctor and patient

Interpersonal & Communication: Professional, clear communication with both the healthcare team and patients
