Opportunity Summary 

Join the Case Management team at Families Forward, a non-profit dedicated to preventing and ending family homelessness in Orange County. Case Management interns will support the team in providing comprehensive services to families enrolled in our Rapid Re-Housing and Tenant-Based Rental Assistance programs. Using a \\whatever it takes\\ approach, our team offers tailored support including housing navigation, career coaching, counseling, transportation, and childcare assistance based on each family's unique needs. Interns will observe case managers in action, provide administrative support, and contribute to program development. Full onboarding and training will be provided.

Tasks:

  • Observe Case Managers during client meetings and calls to gain understanding of the case management process and service delivery model
  • Shadow Case Managers as they assess family needs and develop individualized service plans
  • Assist with administrative tasks including data entry, file organization, and maintaining accurate program records
  • Support program operations by contributing to projects that enhance service delivery
  • Research and compile information on community resources and supportive services available to families experiencing homelessness
  • Complete training shifts at the front desk and Community Market to gain a broad understanding of Families Forward's service model
  • Participate in team meetings and staff discussions to develop understanding of non-profit operations and case management practice

Training:

  • Interns will receive a general employer orientation upon start.
  • Training will include shadowing experienced Case Managers during client meetings and calls in an observational capacity, an overview of the Rapid Re-Housing and Tenant-Based Rental Assistance programs, and introduction to the range of supportive services available to families.
  • Interns will also receive orientation and training shifts at our front desk and Community Market (food pantry), as well as guidance on administrative processes and program operations.
  • Supervisors will provide ongoing mentorship and feedback throughout the placement.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe how Rapid Re-Housing and Tenant-Based Rental Assistance programs operate within a non-profit setting
  • Identify the range of supportive services available to families experiencing homelessness
  • Observe and understand how case managers conduct client interactions and develop individualized service plans
  • Support administrative tasks related to case management and program operations
  • Explain the role of a Case Manager within a non-profit housing services organization
